State Government Leading by ExampleLearn about the energy-related accomplishments of Maine's Clean Government Initiative including energy efficiency in State buildings, energy efficiency in fleets, and use of renewable energy. Efforts to Reduce Fuel Consumption and Improve Energy Efficiency in State Government August 2007The State of Maine has taken significant steps to reduce fuel consumption and improve energy efficiency through a number of efforts, including Governor Baldacci's Executive Order 11 FY 04/05. The executive order represents a comprehensive approach to ensuring the State's continued improvement in the area of energy efficiency. Click here to download report. (PDF 42 KB) Energy Efficiency in State BuildingsMaine State Government is aggressively pursuing energy efficiency in state buildings. Specifications for construction and renovation bids documents are under development. The State has an Executive Order which requires that all-new construction and renovation projects for state buildings follow the standards of LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). Below are links to the Executive Order and to the LEED Web site. Further, The Department of Administrative and Financial Services is involved in rulemaking effort regarding improvement in energy efficiency in state-funded construction. Following is a link to a copy of the draft rule. A public hearing on the draft is scheduled for Thursday, June 24, 2004 at 1:30 p.m. at the Cross Office Building ( 111 Sewall Street ) in Augusta . Written comments on the draft must be received by the Director of General Services (77 SHS Augusta Maine 04333-0077) by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 6, 2004.
Energy Efficiency in FleetsMaine State Government is committed to providing a fleet of fuel efficient vehicles. To that end, two executive orders have been created. Currently, State Central Fleet Management (CFM) has an inventory of thirty (30) hybrid passenger vehicles and (3) hybrid trucks. As vehicles are replaced by CFM, emphasis will be placed on the procurement of hybrid vehicles. Click on the contact below if you wish to review more information regarding State fleet vehicles and fuel usage. Renewable EnergyMaine State Government supported the procurement and conservative use of renewable energy. More than eight hundred (800) individual State accounts have been included in a contract for renewable energy. Attached is a PDF format of the contract for procurement of renewable energy (2.5 MB, large file may take time to download). If you wish to obtain a copy, use the contact information below or call @ 287-2651. Other Energy AccomplishmentsThe Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is responsible for development of an action plan to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from State sources. Click on the link below to find out more about this effort. The Clean Government Initiative a collaborative effort among State Government and State funded institutions of higher learning, is a companion effort, which includes energy and other environmental components. Click on the link below to access this page. The Clean Government Initiative page is currently undergoing a major renovation and expansion, which should be completed in July.
